So, three days, 300 miles and 24000 feet of climbing? That'd be definitely outside my comfort zone but 'doable'. 36 hours moving, but how much actually sleep did you take Richard?

3.5 days as you start on Thursday evening, so a bonus half day! But of course they'd be nothing to stop you taking longer than the Sunday 'cut off'.

Great ride there. Bit of useless information for your Horncastle question, it was a roman fort that was fairly rectangular and enclosed most of the centre of town and apparently still stood over five yerds high in the 1700s. Caistor roman walled settlement probably fortified, Horncastle and Ancaster definitely, Grimsby rumoured outer fort also old skegness and Boston? All were for the protection of Lincoln. Horncastle fort played its part in the civil war after the battle of Winceby as the outward opening gates resulted in the death of many of the remaining royalist by the parlimentarian cavalry.

Too true, too true. Pretty good apart from a lot of tinkles in a couple of fingers so not riding the weekends as much as I would want, but not normal service will resume next weekend - off to do the Rebellion Way in Norfolk. Keep an eye out, I'll be organising another gravel ride in August, not set a date yet, but it will start in Clumber Park, 100 miles, mostly Notts, but a little dabble into Lincolnshire.

Very controversial route, it has to be said that the ruts on the Ridgeway spoil what should be a visually lovely section. Unless your a very skilled off reader or happy to spend hours looking at your front wheel and not the scenery.

The ruts were my first greeting on the KWA, but that as due to my starting point. Then the ruts coming toward the end just came at the wrong time for me. Still, had a fantastic time - no route is perfect.

The KAW is a lot harder than it looks on the map. Like you, I messed up a bit by setting off too late in the day. I thought i could do it in 2.5 days but that was way optimistic. It's a beautiful route , l live almost on the route so makes sense to ride it. I also plotted a nice diversion around Reading ,as I really hated that section. It was a little longer than the official route. I liked your diversion near Stonehenge. Will include that next time. Had to laugh at your choice of bivvy spot ! The king Alfred's way is a route I want to do, but would have to plan it around travellodge or premier inns, as can't camp anymore because I struggle to get up off the ground due to arthritis, and need somewhere to charge my Mondraker Dusty electric gravel bike. A few weeks ago did the C2C Whitehaven to Tynemouth and found it very capable.

I did it last year and started at Reading as it was the easiest place to start for me and I took 4 days but camped and although I managed no problem I wouldn't camp if I did it again, good food and a good nights sleep makes a big difference. Plan ahead and make sure you have plenty of water and bars maps/navigation, good luck you'll love it. Yeah going out of my way to visit Stonehenge was definitely the right choice. Very personal item, a good saddle you can leave with is hard to find. The weather was kind to you and you got to see the amazing views the Moors offers. Loved the video. I giggled as you talked about the trail. It's testing bits and what may lay ahead for you. As I've ridden the route a few times, I knew what awaited you. I hope the video inspires riders to have a crack at bike packing or just come ride on the Moors. It has a lot to offer. Thanks Stu. Yeah the Yorkshire Dales 300, I did that last year, partially at least on my gravel bike. Hoping to do it again this Summer and finish it this time. As for the NYM 300, I've not ridden that way much either on or off-road so it was great to see another part of the country. There was a good mix of surfaces, some annoying, some breathtaking, some flowy and everything in between. I've done a few year tough routes over the years and have to come expect everything from hike-a-bike, getting lost and pissed off to great flowy sections, technical bits and everything in between - if it was too easy everyone would do it etc. Personally I always approach these with the goal of not only finishing, but smiling and having fun along the way and appreciating nature. Great work on the route - will likely do it again!
